A member of the Rotary Club of Audley, Deryck Swindells of Miles Green, and Peter Jones of Penkhull will be competing in the annual non-stop Morris Minor endurance run from John O. Groats to Lands End on June 13^th this year for the benefit of the Donna Louise Trust.

The Donna Louise Trust has been formed to build a hospice for children at Trentham Stoke-on-Trent. It will be used for children from North Staffordshire, South Cheshire and surrounding areas who have life threatening conditions, it will also give respite for their families.

A total of £5,000,000 is required for the project and we hope to collect in excess of £5,000 by sponsorship of our run. The Rotary Club of Audley have agreed to sponsor all the overhead costs of the event, and their generosity is acknowledged. The DONNA LOUISE TRUST is dedicated to the building of a Childrens Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent, which will cost over £5,000,000 to construct and furnish.

It will be used for Children from North Staffordshire and South Cheshire who have life threatening conditions, and respite for families. The nearest hospices for children at present are in Oswestery and Oxford.

The car is a 1967 Morris Minor De-Luxe saloon which was purchased in 1991 and fully restored to a high standard over a six year period by Deryck Swindells and Peter Jones as a retirement hobby. The original engine has been rebuilt and converted to run on un-leaded petrol, other than this, there have been no other modifications. However, every part in the car has been restored or renewed to the manufacturer. s original specification.

Since the restoration it has won several awards at rallies and shows, including two best in show, three class wins, two class seconds and a trophy for the best home restoration at the North Wales 1999 Rally of the Morris Minor Owners Club.

Deryck and Peter are two senior citizens who, having restored the car obtain a lot of pleasure from driving it. They completed the 1998 John O . Groats to Lands End run in 18 hours 28 minutes to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the introduction of the Morris Minor, and raised £1250.00 in sponsorship which was divided between four charities.

This year, to celebrate the millennium, they would like to reduce the time of the run and raise at least £5000.00 for the Donna Louise Trust.
